Radar-LiDAR fusion Occupancy grid mapping Automotive perception

This SPEAR research strand focuses on multimodal sensing for automotive radar. It explores how radar’s robustness and LiDAR’s spatial detail can be combined in occupancy-grid mapping for driving environments.

The work led from an initial radar–LiDAR fusion study to a spatial sparsity-aware approach for automotive driving.

Research question

How can radar and LiDAR complement one another when estimating occupied space in automotive driving scenes?

Contribution

Develops sparsity-aware sensor-fusion methods that combine radar and LiDAR information for more informative occupancy-grid maps.
